Why Vinyl Is An Excellent Material For Tents, And How To Use It

Deann Hunter

Vinyl is a man-made material. It is not a naturally-occurring fiber or fabric. However, that is exactly the point. Vinyl was created as a substitute for natural textiles that were not holding up under certain circumstances. When you find wholesale vinyl tent material for sale, you should be particularly excited. Here is why vinyl is such an excellent material for tents, and how to use it.

Vinyl Holds Its Shape

Say you do not want a triangular tent. Okay, then you can cut the vinyl to make a round tent or even a teepee. The vinyl can be cut and stretched to fit whatever tent form you choose.

It Is Water-Resistant

Vinyl is not entirely waterproof; it will eventually stretch, crack and leak. However, when vinyl is new, it resists water very well. Your tent will not leak or drip for a long time when you use this material. Even when you put your hand up to push a puddle of water off of the surface of the tent, the water will not come through. If you want to keep the vinyl waterproof and in good condition for a very long time, use a special sealant that will keep the vinyl pliable and help it continue to resist water. Then the water will run right off it like water off a newly oiled baseball glove.

It Is Wind-Resistant Too

Vinyl tends to be thick, almost like hides, but without the smells and problems of hides. As such, it resists wind. Wind can beat against it, but wind cannot pass through it. If you have windy days while camping, the wind will whistle and howl around the vinyl, and maybe even make it flap in the breeze. However, you will not feel the wind nor the cold because the vinyl material acts as the perfect barrier.

Vinyl Can Be Stretched Quite Taut

Vinyl has a little give to it. It can be stretched taut over ropes, over tree limbs, over poles, etc., and still create a very sturdy tent structure when the corners of the tent are secured to the ground. It will not split when you do this either like some tarps will when tarps are used as tents. As long as you maintain the vinyl well, it will continue to stretch without splitting. If you do not maintain it well, it can dry out, split, and crack, just like the vinyl upholstery you see in old cars.

Taking Great Care of My Factory

After spending a few years getting my business off the ground, I knew that I had to do something to make things right in our manufacturing department. It seemed like we were never able to keep up with demand, and I could tell that we needed to sort out some safety issues. As a team, we started working together to overcome our challenges, and it made a tremendous difference. I was really impressed with how much everyone was able to come together, and it really helped us to create a more profitable company. Check out this blog for more information.
